BOTTOM FISH BUFFET 7-31

Had D-Rod out today for some bottom fishing today.Hit the spots we have been doing well the last few weeks, to find them picked pretty clean.Looked for some new realestate and found some snags holding some quality fish. The afternoon was drop and reel fishing for a buffet of bottom fish.We filled a cooler with nice sea bass, fluke, blackfish ( 1 each rest released) and even had some keeper cod.Was amazed at how many short cod we caught on 2 of the snags.Burned up a bushel of clams with just the 2 of us fishing, and headed in.the afternoon today was WAY more productive than the AM

Tuna 7-27

.
Jumped on with Capt Rich, his brother Ron and Avet George to go chase some tuna on Tuesday. we were origionally going to head to the Hudson for a chunking trip, But Rich had hit the bluefins pretty good Monday so we elected to Not get lumped up as the weather wasnt anything close to what Noaa had been calling for. Headed out at 3 AM as the seas were settling down, and Made good time out to the Bluefin grounds. We ended up going 9/14 on Nice size bluefins, a couple just missing the over mark., We had two come unbuttoned, while fighting them and on one of our multiple hook ups we had a big tuna cut 90 degress cutting three lines, the other 9 made it to the boat, with us keeping 1 and releasing the rest. George also put the boots to a nice mahi. seems everytime I fish with him he catches a lone mahi cruising past.
Ride home on calm seas made for a great ending to a nice day. and as usual cool seeing all that life off our coast

Made the move in closer, and had nothing but 10 inch shorts, and small sea bass. headed in early to get out of the heat.

SEA BASS 7-18

Due to a tuna trip cancellation, Capt Rich , Matt and Myself jumped on the boat to go catch some fresh sea bass for dinner.
Hit SG reef and had a decent pick while drifting, so we anchored up and had drop and reel sea bassin with some really nice keepers coming over the rails, (well at least for 2 of us ). pick slowed with the tide so decided to run south to the AC reef to some spots that had produced well before.Once again had non stop fish coming over the rails at 4-5 different spots, but here it was mostly shorts.
Fished a short day and kept 37 nice size sea bass, enough for a couple nice fresh fish dinners for the three of us,letting quite a few smaller keepers go along with a TON of shorts.
Matt with a nice Knuckle ( 1 of his 3 keepers LOL ).

def a fun day , and a way to get away form the heat today, it was pretty nice a couple miles off the beach.

Tuna , tiles , and Mahi 7-5

Headed out with Capt Rich, Vic, and John, looking to go put some tuna in the boat.Sea conditions def didnt match the forcast as we headed out at 3 AM.Ran out 60 miles finally seeing some bluefins pushing water, set out the spread and had one Knockdown stripping the Bally , then caught a bonita, before being totally covered up with big bluefish.Got tired of resetting, only to continue to be coverd up with blues.Decided to continue east to the Hudson as heard there had been a very good early bite.
Had the rigs in the water a little after 830 and soon had a flat line jumped on.Brought that 45 pound yellow fin to the boat.Took a couple hours till we finally had 5 rods go off, two came unbuttoned quick, one had a small yellow fin about 26 inches on it, one had a small mahi, and the last had another 45 pound yellow on it.
decided as it was gettting late we wanted to try some deep drop tile fishing.Moved over to muddy slope in 500 foot and Rich had a tile on as soon as he hit bottom.we picked up 15 tiles in about an hour, also having 2 nice mahi come cruising past.Vic's tile bait got hit as he was dropping down by on of the Mahi ,the other kept lighting up but just wouldnt hit anything thrown at him.
Catching tiles in 500 foot of water with 2 pound sinkers def made for sore arms quick.
Also had a 12-13 foot hammerhead at the boat for about 10 minutes , but all of us had had enough and nobody wanted to be the rod man so he got away without the possibility of as sore jaw
.Running in we had a school of Dolphins playing in the boat wash, crashing into it from 90 degrees and using it to propel themselves high in the air doing flips and rolls, they put on an awesome show for us !!!!!!!!!Headed back in at 4 on flat seas, for a sweet ride home.Def cant wait to get out there again.
