Hatteras Tuna

Group pic

Hatteras Tuna

Headed down to Nags Head with Eddie D to meet the Stark Gang to get in some tuna fishing down there Friday.
woke up to hard rain Friday morning but it ended quick and by the time we hit the boat the sky was clearing. First three Tuna were all small Blackfins. The first one here shown with Jim had us crying seeing such a small tuna come into the FIGHTING chair. We then had a double on yellowfins followed by a chinese firedrill of four yellowfins on at the same time, then another double , to finish with Eight yellows between 25-40 pounds.
Ended up keeping the eight yellow fins and one blackfin.
Going 3/3 on blackfins and 8/8 on the yellowfins.
But the bite dropped right out with the wind at 11 am, and fishing just got WICKED nasty till we quit at three.Capt of theDreamgirl had us on the meat early, and we at least got to fight a few each. Fun trip with alot of laughs and ribbing.
Had the Blackfin for dinner last night, I like it better than the yellowfin. wish we had caught some bigger ones of those.

Canal toggin

weather been lousy offshore the last couple of days, so I have been fishing the PP canal for blackfish.

It is def a blackfish nursery in there, TONS of small tog but you can find more keepers when the current gets a little strong for the small fish.

Took Lindsey there Friday to catch her the tog bug, it took her a little while getting used to the bite on mono, but once she got the hang of it she caught alot of fish.

On light tackle these fish are tough fighters. and for just a few bucks for bait you can have a blast.

9-13 crew trip

headed out with Jim and Matt this morning to see if there was some stripers on their early fall haunts.

hit three spot HARD using clam bellies and 2 bushells of clams with only 1 bite to show for it, and that was a skate.

Headed to the ruff stuff then looking for sea bass and porgies.
Was surprised to not have any porgies on the reef, but it was loaded with small sea bass.
Picked through a ton of shorts keeping a half dozen for the table, along with one decent black fish

9-12 weathered in

Looks like there will finally be a break in the weather tomorrow.
Going to do a crew trip and look for some stripers, and see if this nasty east blow has them ready to start their fall frenzy a little early.

Here are couple of videos to keep that fishing itch LOL

Fall Fishing

With Fluke season over it time to get ready for the fast paced fall fishing.
The fall stripers run brings great numbers of bass here a short distance from the dock ,
although they are typically smaller than our spring run, the amount of bass that can be caught well makes up for that.
These are perfect size for the table, and alot of fun on light tackle.
porgies are here in decent numbers, and are a super fish to have a blast teaching kids to fish, with constant bent rods.
The october blackfish bite has been great the last couple years and while the limit is only one, catch and release allows a nice day fighting the elusive tog.
Once November 15th rolls around, the limit goes to 6 per man and we will def be on the fish hard.

Come on out and Make some REELMUSIC.
Not a better sound than hearing those drags scream on a nice cool fall day.

Flukin 9-3

If you can call it that !!!!!!!headed out with the Del Carlo gang today to do some flukin, went to net peanuts with intentions on just hitting the channels today.high tide VERY FEW peanuts to be found and they were on the small side, but the ambrose fluke liked them and we went through them quick.Only fluke were all WAY short.Went back in during the tide change and at dead low there were NICE peanuts all over, netted two livewells full and ran back out to the Ambrose, caught a bunch more shorts, two keeper fluke and three nice sea bass.Eddie, Eddie Jr and Austin fished hard in crappy conditions and at least got a couple meals of fresh fish.def wish we could have had a better day, .Austin was high hook today after getting ribbed all morning by Eddie Jr, for missing lots of AM bites.Water was a nasty tannic brown today , def far from ideal conditions.
