Silly striper fishing 4/28

was out tonight with Steve and his son David.
Made bait just north of the inlet, but it really wasnt needed today as jigs outfished live bait 5 to 1. But still managed to use a livewell full, as the bass bite was just silly.
most of the fish tonight were 10-14 pounds but Steve did catch one that was right around the 30 pound mark.

all fish released except 2 31" fish they kept for the grill.

more liveline limits 4/20

Had Brad, Dale, George and Stan out tonight. Tried making bait early but it was really skittish and moving fast , so started off trolling . with no takers and boat traffic dying down , headed back to the bait pods and floated the first throw with the cast net filling the wells.
Moved off the bait and set up a little deeper , getting hits right away, game on . Dale was the first to box his limit , with Brad right behind him, George and Stan took a little to get used to the liveline game but hung in there and boxed their first limit of stripers.
made a move north after getting word their was a good top water bite going on , and played catch and release with some more bass and bluefish .
was def a nice night , way different than forcasted

Livelining 4/17

Had Mike, Tom , Bruce and Pete out tonight. Looked all over for some good jigging marks, and when didnt find much all the way to the hook went on the troll marking fish but still getting no action . Got a call there were some pretty big schools of bunker moving in. went to those schools and made bait, but not seeing enough bass marks on them , we headed back to where we had been trolling. Tom hooked up almost as soon as he got his bait in the water , but fish came unbuttoned boatside.
we had a bunch more decent run offs , but seemed the bass were just not totally eating the bait, many coming back scaled but not coming tight . Mike and Bruce doubled up for our only two fish boxed for the night.

Did alot of running around , and had some sick marks but just wasnt finding many fish that wanted to chew

Jigging Insanity 4/17

didnt get enough guys for an open boat trip , so Jumped on with captain Rich to help him on his boat tonight. Had a CRAZY jig bite within minutes of leaving our inlet. 3 and 4 on at a time for the next few hours.
when it slowed down we drug the bunker schools and picked upa bunch more nice fish.
An hour before dark the schools came up again and it was even better than the first blast . left them biting just before sunset.

Guys not getting out now are really missing the best jig bite we have had off the NJ coast EVER

While these might not be the 40 pound trophy fish we will be catching in a few weeks, the sheer numbers of fish caught per angler is staggering.

If catching 100 bass for 4 guys in an afternoon trip isnt considered good fishing , with many bass pushing over 20 pounds, take up golf

Raining stripers 4/15

Had to be raining stripers tonight , for the boat to fill up so quick. But the night definetly didnt start out that easy for Dave, Garrett, Greg and Jimmy. I knew the area I had wanted to work tonight, but the marks were very scattered and while a few of my friends were picking up some trolling we had only put one striper in the box after a few hours . A few times bird life built and it looked like something was going to happen , only for it to break up quick. The birds had continued to look hard while moving south by the hundreds , making us look even harder for that flurry to start , way too much life for a good chew not to happen . We had just moved south of the area when I got a call to look North where we had all just been . There was the cloud we were looking for , and we ran there as quick as my boat would move. I was determined to get us on bass , as this was to be Dave and his sons Garrett first striper trip , and for Greg who I met at the fisherman march first time on my boat. The good thing was not only were the fish stacked up , we left them biting at dark to head back in ,with everyone having sore arms and my thumbs raw from unhooking alot of fish. One of those nights that reminds me how much I enjoy sharing what I can on the water.

Menendez Charter 4/14

Had Alex, Luis and Ramon out today . Ran way north to find the only life around. But way to many boats crashing the small schools working bunker. Picked away trolling some lumps, and returned when got word that all the chaos was gone and fish were starting to ball up . finished out our limit on the troll , and started working south finally getting a real good shot at some nice jig fish , playing catch and release for an hour or so before heading back in .

Madery Charter 4/7

Had Mark , Pam , Malinda, and Shurie fom Minnesota out today for a GREAT striper trip. After dealing with a bum knee all week Capt Rich had agreed to help me out tonight and use his boat to make the long run south to the fish , and work the charter with me to take some pressure off me running around the boat. Yet still be able to make this family get together a fun one as this family really enjoys fishing freshwater together, and this would be their first time fishing the salt.We made the long run south quickly with the yellowfin eating up the chop .Pam was the first one to hook up followed quickly by Mark. But the girls were going to soon steal the show and really start to put a hurting on the bass. After limiting out we hit the motherload and our last drift lasted over a mile with 2-3 on at a time for its duration .Big fish of the day was caught by Malinda at 25 pounds.was def a fun trip seeing a family really enjoy being together , fishing for something new.

headed out to shake off the winter cobwebs tonight with Jimmy, Ryan , and Brian.
bait was spread out for miles so decided to troll, and picked away through
the night on cruising bass. and would jig while fighting those hit trolling
few real good flurries of 4 on at a time , but really expected t see the
bait start getting blown up at any time. Boat ran good, and was a good night
to start the new bass season
