NEW MEMBER OF THE 50 POUND+ STRIPED BASS RELEASE CLUB

Had Brad and his A team out last night. bait was very skittish and spread out until we saw a pod get hit. one throw of the net there and we had live wells full to the brim . NICE when the bait wont dive because of being chased from below.
Shucker put the first bass of the night in the box on a snag and drop bait a good eater at just 32 inches. a few more blue fish bite offs then all went quiet.

Made a bunch of moves fishing different lumps, when finally Brad gets a good run off. He sets the hook and his rod doubles over and the drag is SCREAMING , he looks at me and says this fish is going to spool me I cant stop him. Told him to bump up his drag slowly on his Talaca, and he justs looks at the line still flying off the reel.
Finally the fish swirls way off the boat and we see its a good one. few minutes later I tell him to put some as into it and get that little bass to the boat. He laughs as the bass once again makes a hard run. Finally as the bass comes boatside I can see its a REAL good one.
I slip the net under the fish up in the bow of the boat, telling him its a dink as he cant see it. He looks over the side and sees the bass barely fits in the net. And he helps me lift it over the side.
On the deck I know before it even hits the scale he has just caught a 50 plus pound bass.
it pulls down the Rapala Digital scale to 51 pounds 12 ounces.

Sorry for the crappy pictures, but as anyone who actually has had a LEGIT 50 they are very hard to handle and get a good pic as they just want to fall all over the place. And it was a struggle to even get these pics as he couldnt hold onto the bass

and Brads biggest concern was getting this beauty back into the water to swim another day.

After these quick few pics, we swam her along side the boat for a few minutes, until see ripped away from my hand , slapping me with that great broom tail as she swam away from the boat.
The next few minutes you would have thought he had just scored a touch down at the super bowl as he fist pumped and jumped around on the deck that he had just released a super bass.

CONGRATS BRAD ON GETTING IT DONE.

ICED TEA STRIPERS 6-19

Had Steve, his son David and Eric out last night for bass. Once at the boat saw the water was really discolored. darker than Snapple Iced tea.
Water temps had risen drastically, and having a red tide usually means for a tough night of fishing.
Made a long run North not finding any bait till I was above the rocks. made one good throw, and we were off to fish. Seeing a few fish being picked up on spoons I knew we would have a shot at fish.
Eric had the hot hand last night, having over twice the bites as the rest of the guys, and was bringing them in at a good pace.
Steve had our smallest live line bass of the year at 32" , and David was still waiting to come tight on one while his dad and Eric had a pick going.
Finally David gets the bite we were there for. and his bait runner is screaming off line.
Sets the hook and works the fish back through tight stacked four footers, to the boat. The bass makes one more burst boatside until I slip the net under a nice spawned out 46 pounder (on the digital) . Our biggest one this spring.

All the bigger fish including the 46 were RELEASED to fight another day. Watching that big Broom tail wave good bye is def something that never grows old .
Congrats David on a another super bass, and sticking with it through the trip knowing it can happen any minute.

Tough ride home, but was worth it

TOUGH BASSING 6-15

Had the Mike S charter out on Saturday. after having 2 trips canceled to weather left the dock with expectations of a good day finally hitting a great weather window/
While conditions were about as good as they get, flat seas, bunker on the beach the bass just were not there to cooperate. fished hard all morning for just 4 bites. With Gerard catching the only bass, which was also his first striper.

In the afternoon I headed out with the ALL STAR cast Of Scott, Anthony, and Johnny Shimano, hoping to improve on the mornings catch.
Again bait was easy, and since it was early we bounce around a few spots looking to catch some fluke without even a short being caught.

Covered alot of areas, once again for just a few half hearted run offs, where I put the only bass of the afternoon in the boat.

Anthony said he "needed" to be in a FISH PICTURE DAMMIT ,,, so I let him take a picture with the only afternoon fish. His real plan was trying to get me to box the bass, which I quickly released to fight another day.
Too bad Scott didnt get a picture of the BOO BOO face as he watched that bass swim away .

Just at dusk bunker once again was tightly balled up on the beach and it looked like it was going to be BLITZ time, only the fish balling up the bait were tiny bluefish.

still a fun day with all the ball busting going on

STRIPERS UNDER A RAINBOW

Headed out with my sub foreman Vinny to try and get him on a good striper. Left the dock as the rains stopped . and found ourselves fishing under a double rainbow, Vinny said hey arent they good luck . Told him I think so as I handed him a snagged bunker that was being crushed by a bass. Our first of a bunch tonight, in building seas.
He got to see a good show of stripers crushing bunker on top.

ONE bass kept, all rest RELEASED to fight another day !!!

ANOTHER STRIPER CHERRY POPPED, TOUGH BITE 6-9-2013

Had Ross, Rich and their boys out last night to try and put a a beating on the stripers, and have a few guys catch thier first striper
.
Left a little early to beat the low tide heading out, took about an hour to really have the amount of bait I wanted for the night.
Had HIGH expectations seeing the bait spread out for quite a ways, and seeing some great bass marks in the mix.

Fish def did not want to chew, as we marked alot of bass that just would not commit to the baits.
had 6 real good run offs all night , with a few others playing with the baits.

Anthony popped his striper cherry on the only bass we boated, a nice 23 pounder.
Guys fished hard at the rails till after sunset.

DECENT BASSING 6-5

Had Steve out last night for his weekly striper trip.
Finally the water temps where they should be, and alot of scattered bait around.
Made a bunch of stops FAR away from the fleet to pick away at nice bass last night by ourselves.
marked alot of fish, as well as had alot of bass fighting over baits, yet the bite never lasted more than one short drift at each spot.
Much nicer bass last night, the biggest two going 34 and 37 pounds on the digital
