New Years Eve tog

Headed out with the father ands son trip of Steve and Dave this morning.Ran North to where we have been doing pretty good, running with a pretty good SE swell. That got the best of Dave pretty quick once the anchor came tight. He hung in the trying to shake it off, while Steve and I Put some fish in the box, And I released another 10 pound slobOnce we had enough to make a few dinners we pulled the plug and headed back in instead of punishing Dave any longer.Tough kid: was already eating a sandwich by the time I took the fish off the boat, hard to believe it was over 50 again today on the last day of the year 2011Wishing EVERYONE a safe and Happy New Year from the REELMUSIC crew

Redemption trip 12/30

Ran out today with Capt Rich to get in on some last minute togging before the limit changes Sunday. First fish in the boat a solid 9 pounder followed by an easy 2 man limits of really nice tog. No need to measure today. What a difference a day makes from Brutal cold tough fishing yesterday to a big chew wearing just a sweatshirt all day. Nice day on the water for late December

Xmas eve Togging

Had the Del Carlo gang out today for a quick togging trip . Tough conditions up north with the wind cranking but we went looking to try for some Big tog. Young Edward boated the nicest one at 8 1/2 pounds, a few other nice ones were dropped , bunch 4-5 pounders . Total was 12 tog hitting the cooler for the ride home to freezer land. Was surprised to see very LITTLE bass life inshore today. Picked a short under some working birds on the way back in but most of the area that has been producing looked like a desert

Windy togging 12/23

Made a quick run out this morning with Jimmy and Johnny to do some togging. Made a stop at the rocks to jig some bass , but since they were small we quickly headed off to the sticky stuff. Tog bite was slow, but we were able to box 4 keepers each before the wind REALLY started to howl. Decided that the forcast of it laying down wasnt going to happen and ran back down the beach at slack tide to advert a bumpy ride later. Fun day as usual. Biggest tog was Jimmy's at 8 1/2 pounds Dont want to think about the one I lost because of not retying when I knew I should.

Great bassing Tough togging 12/18

Headed out this morning with Jimmy and Johnny hoping for a repeat of yesterdays tog bite. Found some one had pillaged my crabs last night , but we still had a bucketfull and figured it would be all we needed, but the bite was very scratchy and the bucket had alot of empty shells in it, and as Murrphys law would suggest we ran out of bait as the bite got a little better this afternoon . We had a bunch of just legal tog to start the day, which we elected to throw back hoping to fill a cooler with nice roaster size tog. Hindsite says we should have kept those fish since they were legal but we were happy with the 9 nice tog we did keep for the freezer. biggest three today right at 7 pounds.started to head back to the barn at 2 to find some really good bird life, and jigged a bunch of stripers and bluefish (all released today)as fast as the jigs hit the bottom you had a bass on. Alot of fun to finish out a cold day on the water. Pulled the boat back into the slip just as the sun was setting.

TOG CRUSH 12/17

Had a Make up Charter for Brad and Dale today. Since their other two buddys couldnt make it I tried filling the boat last minute but got no interest. Told them since we hadnt made it out and fishing was good we were still going.Well fishing wasnt good today , it was GREAT.Started the day off jigging a bunch of stripers and big bluefish. Filling their striper limit the first 5 minutes. Jigged bass till a little after nine and headed to one of my favorite pieces of sticky bottom. Was a little bouncy and had the tye rap pop on the anchor twice, so doubled up the tyes and didnt move the rest of the day.Drop and reel toggin for the next four hours . with some real slobs hitting the deck.Put our 18 tog in the box then played catch and release with some really nice tog.Biggest pulled the boga down to over 14 pounds, which I was able to release.Next was an 11 pound 4 ounce one I kept because it was bleeding bad( its between the stripers in the dock shot) followed by bunch between 8 and nine pounds..jigged a few more stripers on the way calling it a day at 230/already cant wait to do it again tomorrow

Striper and Tog LIMITS plus 12/11/11

Met Jimmy , Johnny and had a no show who was Sykk for a day of togging this morning to put some fish in the freezer. Day started off jigging bass and blues under working birds that were spread out for a mile. Jig bite was wierd as the bass were on the top and the bluefish were tight to the bottom. After catching a limit of bass and a bunch of blues we headed to the sticky bottom to tog. Was a very scratchy bite, would catch a few shorts and keepers and then had to make a wiggle to get them chewing again . Made a move to a different area to scratch out a limit and throw back a few more keepers. saw bird play and ran down the beach to find acres of bass rolling on top. Jigged bass till the sun set all by ourselves and ran back in on super flat seas in the dark to end a Great December day on the water with great friends.

Good Blackfishing 12/4

Had Craig in from Ohio to try for some tog today. Matt and Jimmy rounded out the crew.. Had pretty good bite first thing on white leggars with Craig catching on fast and Jimmy putting on a clinic. Bite slowed then I got them chewing on my spot and started weeding the keepers through the shorts. Limited out on keepers and threw about half dozen keepers back for another day before the bite shut off. Nicest tog was Jimmys pulling the scale down to over 10 pounds

Stripers 11/20

After having to cancel a charter Saturday due to helm check valve I jumped on to help Capt Rich with a charter on his yellowfin Sunday . Rich made quick work running way south to get on the bass at first light. . Stayed on a steady bite from day break till about 1030 and headed back in. Most of the stripers were in the 28-32 inch range with some 36 inch fish . all fish were heavily gorging sand eels

Steady Blackfishing 10-9

Finally got back out on the water on a nice day, Headed out with Craig so he could try and catch his first blackfish.Didnt take him long to get the hang of it and in no time was putting some nice tog in the boat. Nothing huge just steady pull of keeper size tog with a few to 6 pounds. Nice day for October for sure. The amount of BIG knuckleheads we threw back today made me sick as they were crushing crabs, can only imagine how good the bite could have been if we were fishing for them with clams. We each kept our limit of 1 legal tog for the table.

BIG BLUEFINS 8/9

Got the call from Captain Rich that he had finally been able to check out a spot he was sure should have bluefins on it WAY off the beaten path. Not only were there bluefins there they were BIG ones.He told me to really go over my gear as these fish were going to test our tackle to the limits. Was like an 8 year old trying to go to sleep on Christmas eve waiting for the alarm to go off after just 2 hours sleep.Met Capt Rich, Ronnie, and John at o dark thirty to head out.

The yellowfin ate up the early morning seas and we were at his spot for sunrise.Second drop of my jig and I got CRUSHED by a big bluefin heading back to Hatteras at 50 . tried pushing the drag up only to pop the leader. John then hooked up and boated a nice over fish. I popped two more leaders in minutes and switched to a heavier lined rod.we were having 2 and three on a a time, some being eatin by a school of sharks that had to number close to twenty. Just had dropped down a STINGO gold 200 when I really get hammered , and there is nothing a can do but watch my spool quickly evaporate almost to the backing. I fight the fish back to the start only to have him make three more of the same runs. This tuna is whipping my ass , going round and round the boat. John grabs the rod to let me put my arms down to get some blood back into them and I go back at it again. when we finally see color the tuna is LAZILY swimming alongside the moving boat as though its not even hooked, makes one more run and we slide it into the tuna door , take a quick pic then slide it back out to revive it boatside . AS it starts to recover I watch my PB tuna of 71 inches swim back to the deep.we then get covered up with mahi and as Rich is throwing sardine chunks in a bunch of yellowfins enter the just started slick. we picked 4 mahi and 7 football yellows before the sharks came back on us. the needed recoup time with the smaller fish allowed us to drop down for some more big bluefins before heading to the barn with our over and under bluefins and the 7 yellows and mahi before the afternoon storms hit.Capt Rich def put us on one of the best tuna days I feel could be spent on the water jigging bluefins
