NO Fluke about it

Headed out with Jack , and John  today to try for some stripers and then tog.
Made a long ride south finding nothing but flat seas  looking for bass.
So made a quick run back up north to start blackfishing.
Was a slow but steady bite through the day. but still way more shorts than keepers.
We ended up boxing 10 for a few nice dinners.
I lead the way with a limit . and J&J made up the rest.
once again got a surprise bite and caught another late winter fluke on the reef. ( released)

bit chilly in the wind today , but the enclosure def knocked that down making it a tolerable day in spite of slow fishing

11/27 Slow togging

Headed out on Sunday with Tracey and Eddie to do some togging.
Made five drops never finding much more than shorts.
while the bite was really steady at each spot, the fish were all between 13-15 inches.
about 1 keeper for every 10  shorts.

we dropped the Go Pro down on each spot and was surprised to see very few blackfish.
was alot of bergall life, porgies some sea bass, and a few fluke seen cruising over the rubble.
I actually had a fluke eat a hooked bergall.

Eddie had his first of what im sure will be many on a jig.

a day of "B" fishing

Started off Blustery today.
Tracey , Eddie And I headed out to find the bass and blues looking to chow down on fresh snagged bunker.
Eddie really put on a clinic, everytime I snagged a bunker I was off to net a bass for him.
when the bite died off we moved on to Blackfish. which we found a slow steady pick of, but same as a few weeks ago , it was mostly small fish.
The end of the day the Wind blew out andit was about as Beautiful an afternoon as you could ever ask for in November.
A few more bass on the way home, made for a great day on the water.

ALL bass and Blues returned to play another day.

3 tog kept for dinner, rest returned to fight another day

Slow fishing 10/30

Headed out today with Tracey and Mike to do some striper fishing and finish the day togging.
Was miles of bait South of our inlet today.
But nothing on them
snagged some bunker and headed out to some lumps. First two were covered up by dogfish, but the third had a few bass on it,  Mike had the only one come tight,

Then off to blackfish, steady bite  from smaller tog all afternoon , but never seemed to get and real quality fish chewing.
Still a great day on the water for October.
T shirt weather till the winds cranked up from the south

9/25 Togging

headed out this afternoon with Tracey and Steve to do some togging.
Tracey had our first keeper of the fall.
Steve had the first fluke on my new blackfish jigs, and the biggest tog of the day on a jig, just under 6 #.
Nice day on the water especially after the winds dropped out.
Made 3 drops through the afternoon with a few wiggles.
had a decent pick of fish at each spot Fish would come in flurries.
Fairly flat seas , let me run the boat in at over 40 knots.
Love it when its flat

and couldnt wait to try and get one last shot in on the fluke yesterday.

John Tracey and I made some long runs checking some of the spots fluke congregate moving offshore. but didnt have much luck only catching a few fluke.

Looking forward to stripers and blackfish for the next few months

SLOW SUNDAY FLUKIN

Headed out with Tracey today to do some fluking.
bounced around a bunch of different sticky spots looking for a big fish.
Found very little looking to chew, more shorts than keepers.
I had four keepers and tracey had one.

was surprised the bite was so slow with pretty decent drifting conditions

cool colors

Ozarks fluke tourney

Fished the Ozarks fluke tourney today , with Tracey , John , and Matt.
Hit a few places on good intel today. and Had good fishing at all of them, but no Jumbos for us today.
had well over a Boat limit ( only retaining our legal limit)
.
most of the fish weighing between 2-4.5 pounds.
Had to catch a hundred shorts, that were aggressively chewing today.

Crazy amount of current from the moon tide, made for fishing heavy jigs to

FSOS and SWABC fluke tourneys

Fished both tourneys today with Tracey and John.
Had quality fish everywhere we stopped today. only keeping fish over 3 pounds today.
I had over limit of keepers by 730.
we threw back everything under 3 pounds today. to fill our boat limit with quality fluke , but no jumbos, as the biggest was 7.5#
ended up 4th in both tourneys, making some money in the FSOS tourney, missing the dough by 1 in the SWABC tourney.

was a tough day weather wise , heat was just insane, even before the sun came up I felt like I was melting quicker than the ice in the Engel Coolers lol.

Great tourney that had good money even to 6th place.
And the after party food was good.

definetly one of the better tourneys for the season.

Feast or famine fluking

Headed out with Tracey and Eddie to try and put some fluke on ice for Eddie.
Was supposed to be a meat trip.

Left the dock with good expectations after the beating the crew put on them yesterday.
But after bouncing around a bunch of local spots. we had a tough time finding anything that wanted to chew except shorts.
I had the only three keeper fluke caught, and we had a few sea bass to add to the mix.
But while we had OK action , the amount of bites today turned up as shorts.
Thankfully I had a good bunch of fillets from yesterday I can add to the pile for him.

We did have some excitement with 1 very large flattie , that ended up winning the fight againt Eddie as I tried to coach him through what will be a fight he is sure to remember for a LONG time.

Good thing is with a few more tourneys Hopefully that fish will turn into some $$$$$$$

Leonardo Flukemasters 2016

Headed out with Tracey. Scott, Anthony and John today to fish the Leonardo flukemasters tourney.
Weather held off all day, with ok conditions. actually got better as the winds picked up and it got a little sportier out.
Had caught well over a boat limit by 1130, possibly over a double limit by weigh in time ( only retaining our limit bag at the end of the day).
throwing back alot of quality fluke for almost 3 hours.
Didnt catch any big fish, but with each member adding a decent fish to the 5 fish tourney got us to 26.8 # with Johns 6.9 being our biggest of the day. placing us 2nd in the tourney.

was nice to finally hit the pay window again , even if it was once again in the Bridesmaid spot

Congrats to the winners and others who placed

Fluke before the storm 7-30

Got up to see the forcast had changed , and there would be some time before the storms hit today.
made a quick run north.
fishing was far from good. shorts really outnumbered the keepers.
Tracey and I each had two keepers before running back in to the beat the storms. but at least we got out for a few hours today.

Difference a day makes

Headed out today to fluke with Tracey , Scott and Eddie.
Knew we would only get a few hours in between starting late and having to beat the falling tide back into the slip this afternoon.
In flat seas we made our way to where we had beat them up yesterday.
First drift Tracey puts one 5 1/2# in the boat, next drift Scott bangs a 6 1/2# fish.
Tide starts to change and someone turned off the light switch .
about a half dozen shorts, and Scott and I each dropped 1 good fish , and not another bite .
Of course the weather forcast was off and the south wind came on stacking it up for the ride home.
got up on top and the Contender ate it up .
at least we know where there are a few good ones to be plucked for the next tourney.

FLUKE SLAM

Fished the Gran Pa Sevino tourney today with Anthony, John and Guy.
I had a limit by 930 followed by a boat limit by 10. oclock ( only retaining 16 in the box )
bounced all over until 4 looking for three big fish,
had two come unbuttoned too close to the boat today , that possibly could have done us well.
Had a cooler full of 3-5 pound fish, just nothing big to go with them.
had to throw back at least another 30 keepers through the rest of the day.

did a few drifts to add another 3 after knowing we wouldnt make it to the weigh in.
great day on the water in spite of the weather forcast.

lots of donated bucktails today. but the quality of the fish was worth it..

SHBA fluke tourney day 2

Headed out with Tracey, Anthony and Eddie to fish day 2 of the SHBA tourney.
Bounced around the ruff stuff for a little while before heading to the channels .
Had a four man limit , but nothing over 5 pounds again today.
Bite wasnt as good as yesterday, but fish still did chew all day.

eddie and I each dropped a good fish today. Hate when that happens but its fishing.
just means those fish will be there for the next tourney.

OK fluking 7-3

Finally got the contender back in last night.
Ran out today to do some fluking with Tracey.
Picked at them a little at a time till I had a limit to approx 4 pounds ( didnt weigh them); and Tracey added another 2.
.
had to bounce around to get a decent drift, and fishing actually picked up when the south wind started to crank this afternoon getting the boat moving.

nice to see a bunch of guys on our dock also had some decent catches. FINALLY some fish close to home..

SLOW FLUKING

headed out with Tracey saturday afternoon for a few hours , stayed local and had way more shorts than keepers. ended up with 3 keepers

so decided to make a run up to the bay today with Tracey , Eddie and Steve.
netted peanuts and gave them a go for awhile but we once again were catching alot more short fish than keepers.
Bucktails produced the nicer fluke with Eddie having the nicest of 5 keepers.

A FEW BASS 6-22

Ran out late with Scott to try and find some stripers.
made bait quite a ways north of our inlet, and after not finding much we made the long run north.
Lots more bait and pleasant conditions.. but we had just one bite each. and each landed that fish.
sweet ride home at 30 knots on flat seas.

Fluke cannon's 6-18

Headed out with Tracey to check out some of our fluke spots.
bounced all over the ruff stuff and ended up in the channels  trying out a new jig we made through the winter , The FLUKE CANNON .
didnt  get many bites, but the ones we  did were quality fish.
Mine hitting the scale at the dock at 10# 1 Oz, and just over 30 "
had a whole porgy in his stomach.

.

HERO to ZERO 6-19

Headed out with Scott for a few hours this morning.
bounced around a bunch of the ruff areas looking for a big fluke, didnt even find a short fluke this morning.
headed in early, snag and dropped on some schools of bunker that were tightly balled up , but nothing on them.
big ZERO for us today

.Thats fishing

GOOD NIGHT OF BASSING

Crazy wind gave us a break tonight.
Once again, bunker for miles.
Bass pushing through the bait at different spurts most of the late evening.
sometimes looking like someone was throwing cannon balls into the water.

when the fish did hit your bait it was HARD, and the runs tonight were intense.
we had 2 bass on tonight we couldnt even slow down.
Pulling half the spool before popping the leader.

Nice sunset to end the night on the ride in..

TOUGH WEATHER BASSING FOR THE OHIO BOYS

Default Tough weather bassing for the Ohio Boys

Craig brought both sons Reece and Austin to try and get Austin his first striper, and Reece a new PB trying to beat his 43# from a few years ago.

Was tough fishing both Wednesday and Thursday in the NON STOP wicked west wind.
knew it was going to be tough getting wind whipped each day, but also that the wind should have the bass on the beach.

Wednesday saw only one striper bite, which came unbuttoned.
not finding bass I made a long run north to get in on some of the bluefish action.
The old Reelmusic 3 ran through the slop quickly, and even quicker south when the Storm settled in about a half hour after Austin caught his first NJ fish a big blue.

Ride home was crazy with the rain coming at us sideways at 30 plus.
Beat the rolling fog back to the inlet drenched even wearing raingear.

Thursday we headed out to miles of bait , with not much on them.
A move north and found we had just missed a good bite. tried to pick up a straggler there but didnt draw a single hit.
Headed back towards the inlet stopping on pod after pod till we found one loaded with bass.
Them zipping through the bunker schools that a n bunch of whales had balled up.

The boys had a hard time pullling their eyes away even during a good bite as the show we had with the whales was awesome.
Many times breeching with mouthfulls of bunker just yards off the boat.
bass zooming all over the top.
all nice fish in the mid 30's, the biggest caught by Reece at 37#.

Ran in to regas the boat.
and headed back quickly to where we had left them to find little bait left there.

had just started fishing a little north , when got a call ( thanks FM) that the bass where back up on top where we had been for hours earlier.
Caught some more, and headed back in as the ocean was finally laying down as the boys had had enough.

got to break in the New Penn Battle 2, and the Penn Fathom LV on some nice fish.
